Chicago Gourmet Fun

30 Sep

Last weekend Chris and I attended bon appétit‘s Chicago Gourmet event in the city’s Millennium Park, along with Michelle Dietzler and her husband, David.  Chris and I were invited by my fabulous friend, Erin, at FIJI Water who told me that this was one of THE food events of the year in Chicago and she wasn’t exaggerating!  As you can see from the picture above, when you walked into the event, you were immediately transported into a pseudo-surreal place being surrounded by Frank Gehry’s architectural masterpiece, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, as well as the city’s gorgeous architecture (see the new Aqua Tower in the top right of the photo!).  So combining the cool environment with fabulous food and drinks made for a very fun Saturday afternoon in Chicago!

Tea Time With Nourishment Expert Jeanette Bronée

28 Sep

Jeanette Bronée is one of my role models for clean living and adopting better eating habits. And, for some reason, I always picture her with a teacup in hand or within arms reach, so it’s only fitting to have Jeanette enlighten us with her vast knowledge of tea.  After reading Jeanette’s below, I’ve already placed a few tea orders and I’m certain you will, too!

Paris: Food Favorites + Discoveries

26 Sep

After a weekend of walking the Maison et Objet show, Chris and I headed to Paris Sunday afternoon for a day before flying back to Chicago.  We couldn’t travel all that way without hitting a few spots in Paris!  We stayed in a boutique hotel right off the Rue du Bac in St. Germain.  After checking in and catching up on emails, etc., we set out for a late afternoon stroll and an early dinner.

Closets & Pantries: Kevin West

21 Sep

Part of my impetus to launch OnMyPlate was to have a legitimate excuse to ask people I know and respect (and don’t know but respect!) questions about cooking, fashion, home entertaining, products and places they love. Below is my first official Closets & Pantries Q&A where I pose such questions to people I find dynamic and interesting.  And I know you will, too!

First up – my former Vogue colleague and friend, Kevin West.

New York Fashion Week Catwalk Round-Up

19 Sep

Last week’s Spring 2012 Fashion Week was filled with bright and unexpected colors and prints as well as mix-and-match materials in a single garment.  Silhouettes ranged from sporty to lady-like with great wearable sportswear pieces in between.  And I loved seeing the many shades of yellow, orange, and green in casual and evening wear styles.

Below are my favorite looks from New York. I’m not really sure how I’ve lived this long without the Marc Jacobs sweatshirt and skirt looks below as well as the Suno, Band of Outsiders, and Derek Lam pieces!!  The Tory Burch gown is a must for summer events. I need the olive drab tribal print dress from Michael Kors and the Narciso Rodriguez white shirt dress with beige linen and red cotton pieces…and my list goes on!  So I’ll just say, if money was no object, I’d take’em all!  London is in full swing and then on to Milan and Paris!  I can’t wait!
