Just Can’t Get Enough! Steaz Teaz

20 Oct

Okay.  This post is going to seem more like a paid advertisement than anything else but, I can assure you, I’m just a MAJOR fan!!  If you haven’t tried Steaz Organic Iced Teaz yet, I highly recommend you do. They are super refreshing, all-natural, and actually taste like iced tea, not something totally processed.

My favorite flavors are the White Tea with Lime & Pomegranate with a touch of cane syrup and Green Tea with Lemon when I want something unsweetened. I’m not a big fan of the Zero Calorie flavors because I don’t like that fake sugar after taste.  You can buy Steaz at Whole Foods by the individual can, otherwise Chris and I order it on Amazon by the case load.  You’d think we had stock in the company!  Oy!

Birthday Smoothie

27 Jun

I can’t believe it’s that time of year again, but here it is! My birthday! It’s also my last year before a new decade…gulp! Last year I posted Chris’ insane chocolate sheet cake recipe as my birthday treat but this year is a little different.  I decided to embark on a 21 day vegan cleanse starting this past Sunday so my birthday treat is a Chocolate Almond Milk & Banana Smoothie my trainer, Rebekah, turned me on to.  For another layer of flavor and a little protein, add real, no sugar added peanut butter. Once you try this, I’m certain you will agree that it has all of the taste with none of the guilt!

Tea for Me

9 Apr

When I found out I was pregnant early last Summer, I was shocked to also find out that I had to give up green and herbal teas.  Since Jack was born in January, I’ve made it one of my missions to discover new teas, especially ones I haven’t been able to drink for a while!  Since I tend to gravitate towards red teas and classic teas, like English Breakfast and Earl Grey, it’s been fun to drink and critique new flavors.

I was excited to receive a box set of green, herbal, and black teas from Le Palais des Thés to discover new favorites.  Each box set contains nine varieties of the finest quality, whole leaf teas, 54 cotton muslin tea bags in total.  And every packet is marked with tasting advice symbols indicating the amount of caffeine, how long to steep the tea, and the optimum water temperature for the perfect cup of tea.  I recently purchased this instant read thermometer on the recommendation of my brother-in-law, Peter.  It’s great for cooking as well as confirming the water temperature for your tea!

Hot Chocolate Round-Up

28 Nov

By this time of year, I’m in full-on hot cocoa mode.  It starts around mid to end-October and lasts through to early Spring.  I make it with hot water and almond milk typically or 2% milk, if I add a shot of espresso.  Either way I make it, I like it a little less chocolatey whereas Chris likes double the chocolate.  So I’ve learned that there’s no specific formula for hot cocoa that works for everyone, but I have yet to find someone who doesn’t love it one way or another!

Below are my favorite brands of hot chocolate.  I just tried The Spice House hot cocoa for the first time last week, when I was introduced to it at the Downtown Farmstand. It has a dark chocolate quality and you can see the sugar and vanilla in every scoop.  I recently had a hot chocolate with a friend at L.A. Burdick’s shop in the Flatiron district in Manhattan.  It was like drinking a cup of your favorite chocolate bar.  I treated it like an indulgent meal – delicious!  The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Special Dutch Chocolate Powder is a staple in my cupboard, along with the CBTL vanilla powder.  You can take the girl out of California, but you can’t take the Coffee Bean outta the girl! I love, love, love the tea lattes and now I make them at home, along with hot cocoa.

After posting my coffee round-up back in August, Chris surprised me with the Nespresso Pixie espresso machine & the Nespresso Aero 3 that froths milk, hot or cold.  We use the Aero 3 practically everyday for Chris’ chai tea lattes and my coffee or cocoa drinks.  I had to feature it again because it’s such a useful tool in our kitchen! For those of you who like hot chocolate but don’t like the calories, try Nespresso’s Holiday 2011 Variations Dark Chocolate coffee pods.  I recently purchased a sleeve and love the hint of chocolate flavor in my coffee.

And I’m obsessed with Wedgewood’s new Kilim mugs.  They’re the perfect vessels to enjoy your hot cocoa in!

1. Vosges Haut-Chocolat “La Parisienne Couture” Cocoa  2. Wedgewood Kilim Mugs  3. L.A. Burkick Milk Hot Chocolate  4. Williams-Sonoma Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate  5. The Spice House Hot Cocoa Mix  6. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Special Dutch Chocolate Powder  7. MarieBelle Milk Hot Chocolate with Hazelnut  8. Nespresso Aeroccino 3

Oscar de la Renta’s Resort Drink of Choice

7 Nov

As Designer Resort collections are hitting stores this month, On MyPlate decided to take us on a fashionable trip to the beach.

Tortuga Bay Private Beach & Vacation Villas at the Puntacana Resort & Club in the Dominican Republic was designed by Oscar de la Renta and offers 30 suites in 13 Villas on miles of private beach overlooking the Caribbean Sea with a championship golf course designed by the legendary Tom Fazio, a luxury spa, and eight world class restaurants.  Mr. de la Renta infused his Dominican heritage with his impeccable attention to detail and design in every aspect of the resort, just like his runway collections.  He played off the natural beauty and colors of the rich landscape (even down to the drinks!) to create the ultimate island getaway.

The Resort recently introduced the Devil’s Elbow to all of their cocktail menus.  Made of equal parts Brugal Blanco Dominican Rum, Vodka, Blue Curaçao with fresh lime & orange juices, the Devil’s Elbow mirrors the same blue-green color of the gorgeous Sea it’s situated upon and is named after the resort’s infamous final three holes of the Corales golf course.  If you make the drink at home, the Resort recommends you pair it with fresh fish.

And I just love the two looks above from the Oscar de la Renta Resort 2012 Collection.  Too perfect for the drink and the resort!!
